  • Project Engineer - Transportation

    CivilTech Engineering, Inc. is hiring a Project Engineer with 8-10 years of experience to work in its Cypress, TX office. This person will be the technical expertise of the advancement of roadway plans at all levels of development, including conceptual design, environmental document preparation, schematics and/or PS&E preparation. In addition to a variety of projects, this opportunity will grant the successful candidate a strong opportunity for growth and management of graduate engineers, EIT, and new professional engineers. 

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Provides technical guidance on all aspects of projects and proposed plans

    Works with Project Management team to coordinate scope and strategy

    Prepares project designs and reports related to transportation projects

    Participates in client interaction as technical expert and helps to strengthen client relationship

    Directs technical staff in the preparation of construction drawings

    EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: 

    • 8-10 years experience as a Transportation Engineer designing highway and roadway systems
    • Strong experience with design software such as Geopak and Microstation (specifically OpenRoads) and ability to lead team in production process
    • Registered Professional Engineer in the state of Texas
    • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or similar, Master’s degree is a plus, but not required
    • Any past experience directly working for TxDOT is preferred, but not required

    LANGUAGE SKILLS:
    Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures and governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

    COMPUTER AND MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: 

    Candidate must demonstrate basic knowledge of Microstation and GeoPak, including Corridor Modeler. Demonstrates basic knowledge of design applications such as hydraulic design and roadway design. Must be proficient in the usage of Microsoft Office Suite products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)

    Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra, geometry, trigonometry and financial functions.

    REASONING ABILITY:

    Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

This person will be managing projects from start to finish by developing design including cost estimates, contract review, and gathering plans and specifications. Additionally, this person will be performing hydrologic and hydraulic studies for flood control projects, storm water drainage systems, master drainage plans, and highway drainage systems.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Candidates must have strong technical skills, including ability to analyze reports, maps, drawings and other technical data to plan and design projects
    • Team spirit and willingness to assist junior staff in a team environment to deliver accurate project deliverables within designated scope, schedule and budget parameters
    • Ability to meet with clients and maintain excellent client relations and meet client expectations, including an ability to concisely explain project status and address/remedy client concerns
    • Ability to handle multiple assignments simultaneously
    • Must be able to prepare project scopes of work, cost proposals, schedules and contracts
    • Prepare, modify or direct preparation and modification of reports, and plans, for projects

     

    EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

    • 10+ years experience within Water Resources (i.e. H&H, drainage systems, flood control, etc.)
    • Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering, with a focus on Water Resources
    • Must have excellent working knowledge of standard software for hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, including USACE HEC Software (HEC-HMS, HEC-GeoHMS, HEC-RAS, HEC-GeoRAS, HEC-DSS) and ESRI ArcGIS
    • Demonstrated proficiency in drainage PS&E design, specifically for TxDOT
    • Professional Engineer with current Texas registration
    • Experience working with Harris County Flood Control District, and/or City of Houston is preferred
    • Proficiency with 1D-2D modelling software is preferred
